A10 Electrical in the community

Since establishing A10 Electrical, Dale Hunter has chosen to be active in his local community.  In fact, to Dale, being a local business, it is all-important to be involved in the local community to create opportunities and build relationships so that he and his customers can be an active part of this community.

To that end, A10 Electrical Solutions sponsored a local football team – the Wormley Girls Youth U16 team for the 2022/23 season. This meant that the team of 18 girls were fully sponsored by A10 Electrical, covered all costs for Home/Away/training kits, registration and pitch fees and training facilities.

No matter the size of the project, we approach it with the same amount of consideration, as we want to ensure that we provide our customers with a service that is second to none.

We provide you with a wide range of services, from domestic electrical services to high-quality commercial lighting installations. We also assist landlords in ensuring that their properties meet all required electrical safety standards.

How do I avoid electrical issues and emergencies?

• Check your electrical cords.
• Never use an electrical cord that is damaged, frayed, or worn.
• Do not run electrical cords underneath furniture, rugs, or carpets.
• Never overload your sockets.
• Have an EICR carried out.
• Get your fuse board updated.
• Get surge protection for your fuse board.
• Get broken appliances and accessories repaired or replaced.
• Use a competent electrical engineer to have any work carried out.

I am having work carried out on my property, the builder said he can do the electrical work, Should I let him?

No, any electrical work should be carried out by a fully qualified electrician. If you use an unregistered electrician, builder, or handyman to carry out electrical work, you could run into problems. The work could be very unsafe, charges could be incurred and you would not receive a certificate.

Would I save money by switching to LED?

The short answer is YES.
Converting your standard outdated lights to LED will inevitably lead to reducing your energy cost, simply because LED bulbs require less electricity to provide the same amount of light. LED Lights are already replacing the standard halogen bulbs as LEDs are more Energy Efficient, Cheaper to use, have a Longer life span, and have Greener energy.

How long does an EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report) certificate last?

An EICR Certificate is valid for five (5) years for both Residential / Domestic properties and Commercial properties.

What is fixed wire inspection and testing or an EICR?

Fixed testing is when an electrical engineer tests all electrical installations and systems around your commercial building. This includes testing of main panels, distribution boards, lighting, sockets, air conditioning, and any other type of electrical wiring. Once the electrician has ensured the electrical installation is safe, an EICR (Electrical Installation Condition
Report) is issued.

What is an RCD and what are the benefits?

An RCD is a Residual Current Device. It’s designed to protect against electrocution and electrical fires by cutting off the supply of power when it senses a leakage of electrical current from a circuit. An RCD monitors electric currents in circuits or individual items and will switch off the electricity automatically if there is a problem. For example, if you cut through a cable with a power tool, the power switches off, eliminating the chance of injury from electrocution. RCDs also offer protection against electrical fires.

Why do my electrics keep tripping out?

If you have reset circuits, only to have the breaker trip again, you likely have a more serious problem that needs to be addressed by a qualified electrician. Our experience has shown that typically a power-hungry appliance is causing the trip in the circuit breaker. Usually, it is
caused by a space heater during the winter, an air conditioning unit during the summer, or even something as small as a hairdryer. However, sometimes it is simply that the rating of a frequently used circuit needs to be increased. For example, if a 15-amp circuit keeps tripping, then you may need to have it changed to a 20-amp. Changing circuits should only be done by a professional, certified electrician.

What is a surge protector and why is it needed?

The main purpose of a surge protector is exactly what it says – to protect your electrical equipment from a high-voltage power surge. When a surge of power occurs, the protector will divert the extra electricity to the ‘earth’ wire. If a surge happens without a protector, a fire could potentially start and cause permanent damage to your system or property.

When would I need to have work carried out on my fuse board/box?

If you have had recent electrical work carried out in your home, Flickering lights, Unresponsive sockets, A burning smell, Frequent ‘tripping’, Scorch or burn marks on the fuse board.

Are there any electrical regulations new landlords need to meet for domestic properties?

In June 2020, new electrical regulations for landlords were put in place for new tenancies to improve tenant safety. Landlords are now required to ensure all electrical installations in their rented properties are inspected and tested by a qualified electrician every five years. The landlord’s rented property should be meeting the electrical standard set in the 18th edition ‘wiring regulations’. Any remedial work that shows up in your electrical report will need to be completed within 28 days of the test.

What are RCB/RCBOs and how do they make my home safer?

An RCD is a Residual Current Device. It’s designed to protect against electrocution and electrical fires by cutting off the supply of power when it senses a leakage of electrical current from a circuit.

An RCD monitors electric currents in circuits or individual items and will switch off the electricity automatically if there is a problem. For example, if you cut through a cable with a power tool, the power switches off, eliminating the chance of injury from electrocution. RCDs also offer protection against electrical fires.

How energy efficient are LED lighting panels?

Whether it’s for your home or commercial use LED lighting panels are the way forward. They have many advantages such as being energy efficient and saving as much as 75% on energy consumption. Longer lifespan, higher quality light output, flicker-free which prevents headaches, easily maintainable, and many options of sizes. LED panels can be used in professional environments such as office spaces, schools, hospitals, shops, dentist- and GP practices, and libraries.
